Zinnia Explosion!!!!!

I am loving doing a garden. I can officially say that since this years garden is going well, I will for sure plant one again next year also!! Who knows maybe I'll keep some potted plants in the house during the winter of flowers.  Kylie has named the zinnias. Not for sure why she did, but she has and she is extremely proud of naming them. Perhaps its due to me pulling out the weeds down from the garden that she called "her" plants. (I know I am so terrible for taking out some crab grass that was growing in the drainage from the garden.)

Half of the zinnias have bloomed and are opening up now. Such a mix of colors make them so beautiful! The rose bush has put out 2 more beautiful roses and one is just about to open, and there are still two more rose buds that are growing. The pansies hare still hanging in there, and keep putting out beautiful purple flowers over and over.  The pepper plants are doing great, and I have 2 peppers getting larger by the day, and another one that has just started to grow along with lots of blooms.  The tomato plants have gotten a lot bigger and greener lately. I have a new flower on one of the plants so my fingers are still crossed that they will provide tomatoes for us this year. I hope it does!!! I included some pictures below and hope you enjoy them!!!

More zinnias are coming!!!

Went out and checked my flowers this morning and had the yellow zinnia open up over night. A lot of the flowers have buds almost ready to pop open so it is only a matter of time. My rises are doing well also. I have three rose buds that are growing bigger every day and one is about to open soon. I have also started to have new branches grow on the roses also. Very glad at least one of the bushes have survived and is thriving.
It also looks like I should have some peppers start to produce soon also. I have never grown peppers so hopefully they work out. I still have not had any tomatoes produce on my tomato plants. I hope they grow. I still have had no luck growing cilantro. I have tried growing two separate batches of seeds and all just withered away after they got to be about three inches tall. Might have to find some that is already grown and just plant it in my planter. I will make sure to post some pics of the roses when they open up.

Garden Update!

I haven't updated lately on my little garden so here is my update on it along with pictures below. The tomatoes are doing great. I checked them this morning before I watered and there are 2 blooms now on the plants!! YEAH!!! I hope they actually develop into tomatoes!! The pepper plants are doing well also. I have not seen any sign of them having any peppers growing yet, but hopefully soon they will!! I can't wait till they do! Unfortunately the cilantro has not made it yet. Out of 2 different seed plantings, none of them have survived. I am at the point I will go to Lowe's or one of the little garden shops in town and get a cilantro plant that has already started and go from there with that.  I want to be able to make us some homemade salsa!!!

The pansy plants have taken off. They are doing very well, except for one of them. I think one out of six not doing well is still very good for me. The others have multiple blooms and are very colorful and full of blossoms! The rose bush hasn't put out any more flowers yet. It is however growing new branches and leaves so I'm not concerned with it at all. It has had 2 beautiful roses so far and I'm sure many more to come! The zinnia's are getting tall and full. One of the flowers has a flower bud on it and I bet will start opening in the next few days. Kylie is so thrilled about it and is hoping it is a pink zinnia. Gabryle is thrilled because they are getting so big. He loves the zinnias and every time I ask if they are his flowers he says yes, so they are no longer mine apparently.  The bleeding hearts are struggling a little. Not sure if its from the Oklahoma weather or what. I know part of it is most likely due to the fact the shady spot I had it in, is now no longer shaded all day like it used to be. I forgot to remember that with the summer coming the shady spots will be different. I'll figure something out for it to make it do well. The other bulb plants I transplanted are doing okay I think. One has started to grow back after loosing its leaves from the transplant. Maybe now it will produce a flower, if it even does produce flowers. I'll update again soon as the zinnia's start to produce flowers.

My yellow rose as of 4/11/2012

Yeah!! I'm so thrilled! My first rose, heck first flower of all the plants I have planted is about to fully bloom!!! My yellow rose bush, the plant that is just thriving and doing amazing has its first bud abut to fully open! The girls find it fun to check it every day after they get home from school. They jump out of the car and run look at it.

One rose bush didn't make it. It finally had its last green leaves fall off.  All of the other flowers and plants seem to be doing well. The pansies look much greener and I've transplanted the tomato plants outside. The cayenne peppers will soon be transplanted outside also, and the cilantro in my indoor pot. The zinnias have also gotten up to about 2 inches tall and are so green!

WORMS!!

Girls and I spent a few hours this afternoon out where we have our roses and now other flowers planted. We finished pulling the grass and weeds out of the "garden" and after all of the rain we have had this past week, all the worms are up at the top of the soil. Mackenzie actually picked one of the worms up today, and Little Miss Kylie actually touched two or three of them today. She wouldn't pick it up, but touching it was a big step for her still.

I have never seen that many worms in the soil in an area. Our garden is not big by any means, but its decent, especially since I'm not a big gardener. It's a decent size for a beginning gardener. I transplanted the pansies I had in a pot to the area we have ready. Come to find out the flowers were not even covered in dirt! No wonder they were starting to look kind of puny in the pot they were planted in! We planted all six of the pansy plants in the ground and then planted some zinnia seeds. I love zinnia's. The ones we planted will be all different colors.

We also planted and started our salsa garden kit. We planted the cayenne peppers, beefsteak tomatoes and cilantro seeds in the bucket that was provided and when it comes time we will transplant them like it says to on the instructions. I hope they go well. I would love to try and make my own salsa. I'll post some pictures real soon!!
